About the Photos

Some of the photos I use to illustrate points on this site are photos taken by myself, or by family members. But one special photographer's work appears here frequently, and I would love for you to get acquanted with his work even better. He seems to love these mountains as much as I do! D. L. Ennis is a thoughtful and gifted photographer and writer. Visit his website here

Some of us fear being alone...alone with our thoughts, with our fears, our beliefs and disbeliefs. We fill every empty space with stuff, with noise, with activity. Living here has taught me that I am never alone. I can be completely alone, devoid of any human company, apart from any modern convenience. No radio, no television, just me and an open field or a cool patch of woods. My favorite place is near water, any kind of water, the beach, a river, a creek. There is life in the water, things seen and unseen. There is the wind and the sun and the trees, each singing their own song as the breeze moves through. Some trees whisper and some rattle, and others creak. Unless I allow myself these times of aloneness, I get caught up in all the "stuff" that consumes us as modern people. I lose myself in the chaos of appointments and details and dishes and laundry.  When I come to these quiet places, I recharge inside.
