About the Photos

Some of the photos I use to illustrate points on this site are photos taken by myself, or by family members. But one special photographer's work appears here frequently, and I would love for you to get acquanted with his work even better. He seems to love these mountains as much as I do! D. L. Fog slows us down Print E-mail
We love to watch for what we call "cotton candy mornings" here where the fog settles into the valleys like a layer of cotton. Fog is a reminder that we need to not only slow down, but stop and spend some time in contemplation.

Granted, fog is no fun for driving where you need visibility and a sense of direction. I once spent an hour and a half making a fourteen mile drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway in fog so thick you could barely see the road in front of the car.  That was nerve-wracking. It destroyed our sense of direction as all the edges of the road were blurred, and the landmarks were gone.

But if we didn't have times of fog, would we just keep rushing blindly from one place to another without ever appreciating what we have?
