Toadally awesome

Being able to take time to look around us is such a blessing (unless we are looking around the house at the things that need to be repaired or remodeled!) Today my son came in from outside with his hand cupped around the tiniest little toad I have ever seen.  He's so small he could curl up on my index fingernail.  A few minutes later he brought in another one, a little larger, but still amazingly small.

We put the little fellows in a glass jar so we could get a better look at them, small and brown and warty with shiny eyes. We plan to move them over to our garden so they can feast on whatever bugs come along there. I've read that these are the Eastern American toads, and that they burrow into the ground during the winter and sleep until warm weather returns.
